Autumn Rain is a three-part piano composition that was created with the mixture of score-based preparation and post-production editing. The piece was inspired by Sergei Rachmaninoff's Prelude in C Sharp Minor and later by Teo Macero's editing techniques with Miles Davis' In a Silent Way and Bitches Brew.Work began on Autumn Rain in June 2014, when I wrote some rough sketches for an idea that was based on the Rachmaninoff piece:These sketches later turned into a more coherent project, which was originally planned to be part of a suite of piano preludes:
As part of setting up my Soundcloud page, I went into the recording studios at Brunel University London (which is where I study for my music degree) to do some solo piano recording. The session took place on Thursday 11th December 2014, with recordings of an old piano in room ANTR 109 done the following day.The audio was recorded using Logic Pro X in the ANTR 108 mixing room. When I was finished , I then transfered the audio files to my home laptop. As I did not have the same software at that time, I used Garageband to edit the session down into Autumn Rain as it is today. Teo Macero's influence really came into it's own during this final stage.I want to thank Phil Maguire for his constant assistance in helping me with the problems in the set-up and tutorial on the AKG 414 microphones used. This has been a really fun project to do, and I plan on doing more in the future!Below is the final version of Autumn Rain on my Soundcloud page:https://soundcloud.com/raymondsookrammusic/sets/autumn-rain-parts-1-3
